11am -5:00pm  Pre-conference Workshop: Fundamental Techniques of Food Photography with Jamie Tiampo –Learn the essentials of food photography and styling, including how to control aperture, shutter speed, white balance and to use library management software to achieve ideal food images.During this workshop, you will work hands-on with a life food photo shoot with tips, tricks, and techniques provided by photographer Jamie Tiampo. Improve blog photography, marketing collateral, or next book. Learn to arrange your kitchen for food photography. 

  1. Bring your DSLR and laptop loaded with Adobe Lightroom3.
  2. Attendance at this workshop is included within registration fee.
  3. You will be required to arrive Sat., Sept. 10, adding one night to your lodging.

  1. Why every food writer should know/write about wine  Wine creates a major

      major influence in restaurant reviews, food writing, history of food. Open your
      eyes to the importance of wine for food writers and readers -   Bruce Schoenfeld
      -     The Art of the Interview - Don Fry and Russ Parsons discuss the art of the interview,
then Don F. interviews Russ while attendees write the interview and discuss
their own process. 
    -      Writing with the Senses – Francis Lam – As you walk the Greenbrier gardens, learn
             importance of paying attention to senses as you write. Then, with prompts from
             Francis, write spontaneously for a limited time, followed by open reading.

  1. Communicating Via Video  - Jamie Tiampo – What do YOU look for when web-surfing?

      We all look for the most interesting content in a time-efficient format, which means
      video. Discover what you need to get started producing your own videos and to increase
      your site’s credibility, stickiness and shareable social media elements. Discussion and
      video; no need for a camera.
